英文哲理短文《苹果树》 A long time ago, there was a huge le tree. A little boy loved to come and lay around it every day. He climbed to the tree top, ate the les, took a nap under the shadow... He loved the tree and the tree loved to play with him. Time went by... the little boy had grown up and he no longer played around the tree every day. One day, the boy came back to the tree and he looked sad. “Come and play with me,” the tree asked the boy. “I am no longer a kid, I don’t play around trees anymore.” The boy replied, “I want toys. I need money to buy them.”“Sorry, but I don’t he money...but you can pick all my les and sell them. So, you will he money.” The boy was so excited. He grabbed all the les on the tree and left hily. The boy never came back after he picked the les. The tree was sad. One day, the boy returned and the tree was so excited. “Come and play with me,” the tree said. “I don’t he time to play. I he to work for my family. We need a house for shelter. Can you help me?”“Sorry, but I don’t he a house. But you can chop off my branches to build your house.” So the boy cut all the branches off the tree and left hily. The tree was glad to see him hy but the boy never came back since then. The tree was again lonely and sad. One hot summer day, the boy returned and the tree was delighted. “Come and play with me!” the tree said. “I am sad and getting old. I want to go sailing to relax myself. Can you give me a boat?”“Use my trunk to build your boat. You can sail far away and be hy.” So the boy cut the tree trunk to make a boat. He went sailing and never showed up for a long time. The tree was hy, but it was not true. Finally, the boy returned after he left for so many years. “Sorry, my boy. But I don’t he anything for you anymore. No more les for you...” the tree said. “I don’t he teeth to bite,” the boy replied. “No more trunk for you to climb on.” “I am too old for that now,” the boy said. “I really can’t give you anything... the only thing left is my dying roots,” the tree said with tears. “I don’t need much now, just a place to rest. I am tired after all these years.” The boy replied. “Good! Old tree roots is the best place to lean on and rest. Come, Come sit down with me and rest.” The boy sat down and the tree was glad and smiled with tears... This is a story of everyone. The tree is our parent. When we were young, we loved to play with Mom and Dad... When we grown up, we left them, and only came to them when we need something or when we are in trouble. No matter what, parents will always be there and give everything they could to make you hy. You may think that the boy is cruel to the tree but that’s how all of us are treating our parents. Take time out during the day for quiet time to listen to your inner voice. You may want to use your quiet time to meditate or pray. However you use this time, the key is to shut out all of the noise around you by focusing deep within yourself. Breathing deeply during quiet time will also help you focus. I know it’s hard to find quiet time during a particularly busy day, but it’s so important — even if it’s just 10 minutes a day and you he to sneak away to get it. Quiet time can really make a difference in your life. It enables you to hear God speaking to your heart reminding you of His perfect love for you. Be honest with yourself by paying attention to your actions. Actions speak louder than words, and they always tell the truth. What do your actions say about you? If you say you love your job, but your actions say otherwise, which do you think is more true — your words or your actions? On the other hand, if you say you’re not good at a certain job, but your actions say otherwise, that’s also important. What do you do with this insight? You can use it to make more beneficial choices in your life. By being honest with yourself based on your previous actions, your actions moving forward will be based on truth instead of just what you tell yourself. Despite what your subconscious may be telling you, you can he love with no limits. The key is to unconditionally love yourself first.

:Of Harmony
It is my temper, and I like it the better, to affect all harmony: and sure there is musick even in the beauty, and the silent note which Cupid strikes, far sweeter than the sound of an instrument. For there is a musick where ever there is a harmony, order, or proportion: and thus far we may maintain the music of the Sphears; for those well-ordered motions, and regular paces, though they give no sound unto the ear, yet to the understanding they strike a note most full of harmony. Whatsoever is harmonically posed delights in harmony; which makes me much distrust the symmetry of those heads which declaim against all Church-Musick. For my self, not only for my obedience, but my particular Genius, I do embrace it: for even that vulgar and Tern-Musick, which makes one man merry, another mad, strikes in me a deep fit of devotion, and a profound contemplation of the First poser. There is something in it of Divinity more than the ear discovers: it is an Hieroglyphical and shadowed lesson of the whole World, and creatures of GOD; such a melody to the ear, as the whole World, well understood, would afford the understanding. In brief, it is a sensible fit of that harmony which intellectually sounds in the ears of GOD.
:Pressure
Pressure es from being unprepared there is no substitute for preparation, practice and hard work. Desire and wishful thinking won’t do it. Only preparation will give you the petitive edge.
Pressure can paralyze when a person is not prepared. Just like water gritates to its own path, duanwenw success gritates to those who are prepared. Weak effort gets weak results.
Maybe it’s true that we don’t know what we’ve got until we lose it. But it’s also two that we don’t know what we he been missing until it arrives. Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they will love you back. Don’t expect love in return! But if it dose not be content it grows in yours. It takes an hour to like someone and a day to love someone, but it takes a life time to forget someone.
Don’t rely on one’s earance, it can deceive. Don’t rely on wealth, even that fades away. Rely on someone who makes you *** ile, because it takes only a *** ile to make a dark day bright. There are moments in life when you miss someone so much that you just want to pick them from your dreams and hug them. Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be.
May you he enough hiness to make you sweet; enough tries to make you strong, enough sorrow to keep you human; enough hope to make you hy.
Always put yourself in other’s shoes. If you feel that it hurts you, it probably hurts others too. The hy people don’t necessarily he the best everything; they just make the most of everything that es along their way. Hiness waits for who cry; those who he searched; and those who he tried; for only they can reciate the hiness of people who he touched their lives.
The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past. You con not go on well in life until you let your past failures and heartaches go off. When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was *** iling. Live you life so that when you die, you are the one who is *** iling and everyone around you is crying.
There is not a (no) thrifty man but becomes a rich man sooner or later. Why? Because he will not spend such money as is unnecessary. Little by little his money will accumulate. Ten to one, he is bound to make a fortune.
I do not like such men as spend their money in a wrong way. They do not know extragance is a bad thing. It can only make them hy for the time being. In short, thrift makes poor men rich and extragance makes rich men poor.
Needless to say, nothing but perseverance can lead a man to the way of success. In other words, a persevering man never does his work without succeeding in it. This is indeed unchangeable truth.
Our National Father, Dr. Sun Yat-Sen, is the most ideal example. He was devoted to the revolution about forty years. He met with many failures, but he was anything but discouraged. As a result, he won. The Republic of China was born.
WHERE THERE IS A WILL, THERE IS A WAY 有志者事竟成
The secret of success (The key to success) is not so much money as a strong will. A great man is one who has a strong will and an indomitable spirit. In other words, if a man does not he a strong will to win (get) the final victory, he will never succeed in his life. He is no more than a failure.
It is quite obvious that there is no difficult thing (nothing difficult) in the world. if you make up your mind to do it, you will certainly accomplish your end. That stands to reason.
成功的要诀不是金钱而是一个坚强的意志(用not so mush... as)。 他只不过是(用no more than)一个失败者。

1. Feeling in Snow
As soon as I walked outside, I was greeted with the shimmering white blanket of cold. Despite the chill overwhelming my skin, inside I was warm. I felt as though I could be giving off heat; I had the desire to stay out in this freeze for hours. It was the type of day that speaks to you through its elements; I took a deep breath to hear more snow was coming.
As I walked I looked up, trying to realize what made this day so beautiful, so serene. It was as if time had been put temporarily on hold and I along with it. Or maybe I was the only one unpaused…Either way, the solitude was comforting, and I sensed myself floating away. I sat down on the edge of a curb and listened. All there was to hear was the wind rushing over the top of my head and circling some old, cracking lees some yards away. To me it was the reassuring sound of nature, trying not to be forgotten.
It did start to snow. None of those little flurries, but big, fat flakes which clung immediately to their surface.
Then it was time to go and my reverie had to end. As I began walking again, I drifted back into this time frame, calm and cleared.
Now if only I could remember where I was going.
Joy in living comes from hing fine emotions, trusting them, giving them the freedom of a bird in the open. Joy in living can never be assumed as a pose, or put on from the outside as a mask. People who he this joy don not need to talk about it; they radiate it. They just live out their joy and let it splash its sunlight and glow into other lives as naturally as bird sings.
We can never get it by working for it directly. It comes, like hiness, to those who are aiming at something higher. It is a byproduct of great, simple living. The joy of living comes from what we put into living, not from what we seek to get from it.
Tucked away in our subconscious is an idyllic vision. We see ourselves on a long trip that spans the continent. We are treling by train. Out the windows, we drink in the passing scene of cars on nearby highways, of children wing at a crossing, of cattle grazing on a distant hillside, of smoke pouring from a power plant, of row upon row of corn and wheat, of flatlands and valleys, of mountains and rolling hillsides, of city skylines and village halls.
But uppermost in our minds is the final destination. On a certain day at a certain hour, we will pull into the station. Bands will be playing and flags wing. Once we get there, so many wonderful dreams will come true and the pieces of our lives will fit together like a completed jigsaw puzzle. How restlessly we pace the aisles, damning the minutes for loitering --waiting, waiting, waiting for the station.
"When we reach the station, that will be it! "we cry. "When I'm 18. ""When I buy a new 450SL Mercedes Benz! ""When I put the last kid through college. ""When I he paid off the mortgage!""When I get a promotion.""When I reach the age of retirement, I shall live hily ever after! "
Sooner or later, we must realize there is no station, no one place to arrive at once and for all. The true joy of life is the trip. The station is only a dream. It constantly outdistances us.
"Relish the moment " is a good motto, especially when coupled with Psalm 118:24:"This is the day which the Lord hath made;we will rejoice and be glad in it. " It isn't the burdens of today that drive men mad. It is the regrets over yesterday and the fear of tomorrow. Regret and fear are twin thieves who rob us of today.
So stop pacing the aisles and counting the miles. In stead, climb more mountains, eat more ice cream, go barefoot more often, swim more rivers, watch more sunsets, laugh more, cry less. Life must be lived as we go along. The station will come soon enough.
1The Dog and the Shadow)It hened that a Dog had got a piece of meat and was carrying it home in his mouth to eat it in peace. Now, on his way home he had to cross a plank lying across a running brook. As he crossed, he looked down and saw his own shadow reflected in the water beneath. Thinking it was another dog with another piece of meat, he made up his mind to he that also. So he made a snap at the shadow in the water, but as he opened his mouth the piece of meat fell out, dropped into the water and was never seen more.
Beware lest you lose the substance by grasping at the shadow.

“Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future”
~ John F. Kennedy
The one constant thing in our life is change. We cannot oid it and the more we resist change the tougher our life becomes. Trust me, I know this because I was very skilled at deflecting change in my life.
We are surrounded by change and it is the one thing that has the most dramatic impact on our lives. Change has the ability to catch up with you at some point in your life. There is no oiding it because it will find you, challenge you, and force you to reconsider how you live your life.
Change can come into our lives as a result of a crisis, as a result of choice or by chance. In either situation we are all faced with hing to make a choice – do we make the change or not? I believe it is always better to make changes in your life when you choose to rather than being forced to.
We however cannot oid the unexpected events (crisis) in our lives because it is these events that challenge our complacency in life. What we can control when we are experiencing these challenging events, is how we choose to respond to them. It is our power of choice that enables us to activate positive change in our lives.

The best day of our lives is today. The past is no longer here. We cannot enjoy it any longer. To dwell on the past is to waste the opportunity to enjoy the present. The future is a promise, a time that will not come because what we he is only today. When tomorrow comes, it will not be tomorrow any more; it becomes your today. You cannot enjoy tomorrow unless you know how to enjoy your today. If you are to live thirty more years, you are going to experience 10,950 todays. But every day that passes without your notice is a day cut off from your life. Your life is a day shorter every new day.
Each day is a decision to live. Today is a gift; this is why it is called the "present". How you use this day is up to you. At each new day, you decide whether to unwrap that gift, or let it stay in the corner and spoil. Each day is a decision to live your ideal life.
How you feel, how you react and how much stress you he in your life is in direct relation to how you think.
Some people let random circumstances predict their day and actually end up creating stress for themselves. For example, when they go to make coffee and find there is none left, they may start the day by thinking, "Oh, this isn?t going to be a good day." Then, for the rest of the day, they duanwenw allow minor inconveniences, unexplained challenges or other less ideal events to reinforce their negative thought. And they end up hing a stressful day.
Look forward to your day and don?t let negative thoughts control it. Change how you interpret or react to life?s events. If you run out of coffee, change your thoughts to, "If this is the worst thing that could hen to me today, then the rest of my day will be great."
If you continually he negative thoughts, then you are allowing only negative events to be your companion for the rest of the day. And, when something good does occur, you won?t even recognize it.
The hiness of your life depends on the quality of your thoughts.
