“一切过的都很不错，但上帝却很折磨人，他让这两个男孩同时爱上了B，性感迷人的班花。结果可想而知，C默默地注视着他的朋友和爱人在一起……一直到了毕业，C成了一名木匠；而A当了卡车司机，并和B结了婚，婚后生下了女儿Michelle，B也经营了一家杂货店，那是她的嫁妆。然而，为了让家人生活得更好，让女儿能获得良好的教育，A不得不跨好几个州甚至横跨整个美国去运送货物，因而一个月只能回家一两趟来看看家人，隔一天又要坐车去送货了。相比之下，作为木匠的C就轻松多了，所以他经常来杂货店给B帮忙。

“在1959年的隆冬，A依旧开着卡车上了洲际公路，但是连天的大雪使公路被封闭了，人们不得不等待公路的解封。但A等了两天，情况似乎不见好转，天气预报说这种恶劣的天气还将持续一周，于是A掉转车头开回了家，这一开又过了三天。半夜两点终于快到家了，他下车满心欢喜地给家里打了电话，但迟迟没人接听。A很担心，想到是不是女儿生病住院了。他立即开车去了C家，想打听家里的情况。他敲开了c家的门，在他眼前的竟然是两个人——他的朋友和他的妻子！这种场面即便A再迟钝也立刻明白发生了什么事，他望着眼前这两个人，只说了一个字'Why？'这种问题哪里给出答案！A掏出防身用的手枪结束了妻子和朋友的性命，然后驾车径直驶往警察局。

“他原本可以逃往临州免于死刑，但他选择了径直去警察局，在本州审判，陪审团一致通过他犯故意罪，被判处死刑，于1957年2月6日执行电椅死刑。他被关在死囚牢里，离行刑还有三天，一张纸和一支笔塞了进来，给他写临终的遗言。”
